EDI Maintaining Partner Profiles

The partner profile is an important element in customizing the ALE/EDI interface. We will be frequently involved in creating, changing, and adjusting values in the partner profile. An incorrect partner profile can lead to hours of debugging and frustration.

A standard program RSECHK07 is available in the system to carry out the following checks on the values specified in the partner profile.

We can execute the RSECHK07 program via transaction SE38 or from the menus of the initial partner profile screen (under Partners, Check). The output is a color coded report that details any problems.

Although a check is carried out when the partner profile is initially created, some parameters can eventually become invalid. For example, if a user ID specified in the Post Processing: Permitted Agent fields in the partner profile no longer exists, this report will flag it as an error.

Copying Partner Profiles

The copy function is very useful in maintaining partner profiles, especially if we have partners who are similar. We can create a sample partner profile with all possible messages, copy it for a new trading partner, and then delete the unwanted components. Deleting extraneous components is much easier than creating the whole partner profile from scratch.

Copying Partner Profile Views

If we have created a record (inbound or outbound) with incorrect key values, the only way to change it is to delete it and create it again. However, the copy function can be very useful in this case.

Using Message Defaults for Automatic Generation

From release 4.0, the IMG contains a tool to set default parameters for each message for a partner type. Then you can build your partner profiles using these defaults. This tool quickly creates your partner profile using the defaults set for each message.

Transaction BD82 can interfere with your existing ALE configuration, so use this tool only if your site is not using ALE or if you know exactly what you are doing.

Programming to Maintain Partner Profile

If several hundred partner profiles are already being used in your legacy environment, we can build an interface to create our partner profiles in the SAP system. You can use the following options to create your partner profiles.

Write a BDC (Batch Data Communication) program ·

Use standard function modules ·

Several function modules are available in the system so we can maintain partner profiles without having to go directly to the database. The function modules are present in function group EDI6.(80)
